Detour coming into Lake Placid during construction
Trucks and cars traveling through Lake Placid to or from Saranac Lake or Keene will be directed to use Military Road between Sara Placid Road (Rte 86) and Sentinel Road (Rte 73).
Main Street and Parkside Drive during construction
During the Spring and very early Summer of 2022 traffic on Main Street will return to one-way northbound, from the Rte 73 / Rte 86 Intersection, through town and up the hill to the intersection of Hillcrest Ave and Rte 86 (St. Agnes Church). The traffic pattern described below woud be in place until about July 1st.
Vehicles can enter Main Street
from Route 86 when coming from Wilmington
by turning left from Route 73 at the Rte 73 / Rte 86 intersection
by turning left from the Olympic Drive / Main Street intersection near the Olympic Arena and Conference Center.
When coming from Ray Brook, Saranac Lake and other points in that vicininty,
vehicles can also reach main street by turning right onto Hillcrest Avenue at St. Agnes Church, traveling to the Crowne Plaza and down the hill on Olympic Avenue, and then turning left at the new light at the bottom of Olympic Avenue.
Delivery zones on Main Street are open and may shift their exact location with construction.
Traffic is two-way on Hillcrest Road between the Crowne Plaza on Olympic Drive and Sara-Placid Road (Rte 86).
Olympic Drive remains two-way between the Crowne Plaza and Main Street.
Parkside Drive will be one way southbound, from Main Street by the US Post Office to Morningside Drive.
Two new traffic lights are installed and operating to help with the traffic flow. These lights will remain in place and operating until all Main Street construction is completed, roughly three years.
- One new traffic light is at the intersection of Olympic Drive and Main Street, next to the Olympic Arena and Conference Center.
- A second new traffic list is at the intersection of Wesvalley Road & Sara-Placid Road (rte 86). The picture at the top right of this page shows the light at the Wesvalley Road and Sara-Placid Road intersection.
